چکیده

A fluid multi-structure interaction (FMSI) study on flow-induced coupled vibrations of an elastically mounted cylinder and a detached flexible plate is carried out numerically at constant $Re=100$ . The effect non-dimensional gap $G^{*}$ between the two structures, reduced velocity $U_{c}^{*}$ , proximity-induced flow physics vibration characteristics system presented. FMSI shows two-state response: state 1 larger gaps $G^{*}\geqslant 1$ 2 smaller $G^{*}\leqslant 0.5$ At encounters oscillating wake in 1, while it onset 2. Each relates to distinct both with showing vortex-induced response galloping amplitude governed by dynamics that cylinder–plate vortex-interaction dynamics. In addition constructive destructive vortex interactions reported earlier, partial observed here. near lead vortex-shedding patterns – 2S, C(2S), 2P novel C(2P) far wake. Separate regime maps are presented for various types patterns, correlated amplitude, frequency phase difference plate. strong correlation quantitative parameters, indicating strongly multi-physics present system.

Vortex-induced vibrations of a long flexible cylinder in shear flow

We investigate the in-line and cross-flow vortex-induced vibrations of a long cylindrical tensioned beam, with length to diameter ratio L/D=200, placed within a linearly sheared oncoming flow, using three-dimensional direct numerical simulation. The study is conducted at three Reynolds numbers, from 110 to 1100 based on maximum velocity, so as to include the transition to turbulence in the wake...

Flow-Induced Instability Smart Control of Elastically Coupled Double-Nanotube-Systems

Flow induced vibration and smart control of elastically coupled double-nanotube-systems (CDNTSs) are investigated based on Eringen’s nonlocal elasticity theory and Euler-Bernoulli beam model. The CDNTS is considered to be composed of Carbon Nanotube (CNT) and Boron-Nitride Nanotube (BNNT) which are attached by Pasternak media. The BNNT is subjected to an applied voltage in the axial direction w...

VIV of Tapered Cylinders: 3D LES Numerical Simulation

In the present study, the author’s previous experimental investigations on the vortex induced vibration of uniform and tapered circular cylinders are numerically simulated. The circular cylinders have medium mass ratios (5.93, 6.1), low mass-damping parameters (0.0275, 0.0279) a mean diameter of 0.028m and an aspect ratio of about 14. A fully coupled two-way fluid-structure interaction (FSI) an...

Vortex-induced vibrations of a flexible cylinder at large inclination angle.

The free vibrations of a flexible circular cylinder inclined at 80° within a uniform current are investigated by means of direct numerical simulation, at Reynolds number 500 based on the body diameter and inflow velocity. In spite of the large inclination angle, the cylinder exhibits regular in-line and cross-flow vibrations excited by the flow through the lock-in mechanism, i.e. synchronizatio...
